About

hipstuff is a one-person design shop making merch for developers. Running since 2017, a bit over a hundred designs deep.

The designs come out of actually using the tools — language mascots, framework marks, and the jokes that only land if you've spent an afternoon on a build error. Everything is drawn to hold up at print size rather than scaled off a screenshot.

Where the products come from

Printing and shipping are handled by two print-on-demand marketplaces:Redbubble andTeePublic. Most designs are on both. Which one is cheaper or faster depends on where you are, so it's worth checking both — the product pages here link to each.

Orders, payment, shipping and returns are all handled by whichever marketplace you buy from. This site is the catalogue and the writing; it doesn't process orders.

About the blog

The blog covers where developer culture's mascots, logos and in-jokes came from — why Go has a gopher, who decided Rust needed a crab, where "it works on my machine" started. It's researched properly and sourced, because getting this stuff wrong in front of an audience of developers is its own kind of punishment.
